Also known as Lake Galilee. A freshwater lake on the border of Palestine, Israel, and Syria. It is 21 km north to south, 10 km east to west, and has an area of 170 ^km2 . The lake surface is 209 m below sea level. The Jordan River runs through it from north to south. It is closely related to the life of Jesus Christ, and is referred to as the Sea of Chinnereth in the Old Testament and the Sea of Gennesaret in the New Testament.
