1910‐65 British director and actor. He became passionate about theater while studying at Oxford. He started out as an actor, but gradually moved into directing. From 1946 to 1952, he worked with director Glen Byam Shaw and French director Michel Jacques Saint-Denis at the Old Vic, producing artistic plays.
