A British popular weekly newspaper founded in Manchester in 1881 by George Newnes, who had made his money by running a vegetarian restaurant. As the title of its first issue, The Tit-Bits from All the Most Interesting Books, Periodicals and Newspapers of the World, suggests, in its early days it featured digests of interesting articles collected from other newspapers and magazines, which gained it a large readership. It then gradually began to include its own original material. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
