A former town in Asuwa District, central Fukui Prefecture. It occupies the mountainous area in the middle reaches of the Asuwa River, and National Route 158 and the Etsumi Hoku Line run along the valley that stretches from east to west, connecting it to Fukui City and Ono City. There are many beautiful forests, and the town is involved in lumber, rice cultivation, vegetable cultivation, and other industries. In February 2006, it was incorporated into Fukui City along with Shimizu Town and Koshino Village in Nyu District. 137.73 km2 .
