A former town in Asuwa District, central Fukui Prefecture. It occupies the mountainous area in the middle reaches of the Asuwa River, and National Route 158 and the Etsumi Hoku Line run along the valley that stretches from east to west, connecting it to Fukui City and Ono City. There are many beautiful forests, and the town is involved in lumber, rice cultivation, vegetable cultivation, and other industries. In February 2006, it was incorporated into Fukui City along with Shimizu Town and Koshino Village in Nyu District. 137.73 ^km2 . Population: 5,321 (2003).

A former town in Kitakuwada County, central Kyoto Prefecture. It occupies the northern part of the Tanba Highlands and the upper reaches of the Yura River. Most of the area is forest and known for producing cedar timber, and its specialty crops are shiitake mushrooms, chestnuts, and tree seedlings. National Route 162 passes through the town. In the west is Lake Nijinoko, an artificial lake created by the Ohno Dam. In January 2006, it merged with the towns of Sonobe, Yagi, and Hiyoshi in Funai County to become a city, forming Nantan City. Area: 340.47 ^km2 . Population: 5,327 (2003).

A former town in Yamagata County, central Gifu Prefecture. Occupying the mountainous area upstream of the Mugi River, it is an agricultural and mountain village region, but arable land is scarce. Lumber is produced, and water valve manufacturing and sewing industries are also thriving. In April 2003, it merged with Takatomi Town and Ijira Village to form Yamagata City. 158.00 ^km2 . 8,869 people (2000).
