[Born] Emperor Yuejong 1 (1106) [Died] Myeongjong 9 (1179) A military official in the mid-Goryeo period of Korea. A native of Haeju, Hwanghae Province. He rose from the rank of officer in the Bubing (→Bubing system) to the rank of General. In 1170 (the 24th year of King Uijong's reign), he rebelled against the long-standing monopoly of ruling power held by the civil officials, killing many of them and deposing Uijong (→Gyeongin Rebellion). He later supported Myeongjong, and became the Pyeongjangsa, Chief Secretary of the Secretariat, and Judge of the Military Army, seizing political and military power. In the Gyeongsi Rebellion in 1173 (the 3rd year of King Myeongjong's reign), he killed even more civil officials and established a military government. Later, due to conflicts between the military officials, he was killed by Gyeong Daeseung in 1176.
