A group of Middle Paleolithic ruins near Dingcun, Xiangfen County, Shanxi Province, China. They are distributed over an 11-kilometer stretch on the terraces on the left bank of the lower Fen River. They were discovered in 1953, and excavated the following year by the Institute of Vertebrate Paleozoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. The stone tools unearthed at 10 sites during the excavation included core stone tools such as hammers, mallets, and stone balls, and flake stone tools such as triangular points and large and small scrapers, with the latter predominating, and scrapers made from large flakes being particularly prominent. The sites are thought to belong to the same culture of the same era, and are known as the Dingcun culture. Three human teeth were discovered at site 100, which is said to be close to Neanderthals.
