The Chronicles of Sadanobu

This is a diary of a nobleman in the Heian period. It was written by the chancellor and grand minister of state, Fujiwara Tadahira. It was given this title by his posthumous name, Lord Sadanobu. The original form no longer exists, and the only extant version is the "Sadanobu Koki Sho", which spans from 907 (Engi 7) to 948 (Tenryaku 2). It is said that the excerpt was made by Tadahira's son, Saneyori (Ononomiya). This is also evidenced by the fact that the "Gonijo Moromichiki" states that "Sadanobu Koki" is "excerpted from Ononomiya". It is unfortunate that there is no original version, and only an excerpt is available, but it is a valuable resource that gives us information about the times when the regent government developed and was established during the reign of Emperor Suzaku, particularly the Johei and Tengyō Wars. The Kujo family copy in the Tenri Library possession is the only old copy, and was written in the early Kamakura period. It is included in the "Dai Nippon Koroku" (Records of Ancient Japan), and a facsimile is included in the "Tenri Library Rare Books Collection."

平安時代の公卿(くぎょう)の日記。筆者は関白太政(だいじょう)大臣藤原忠平(ただひら)。諡(おくりな)の貞信公によりこの称がある。原形はいまはなく、現存のものは『貞信公記抄』であり、907年（延喜7）から948年（天暦2）にわたる。抄本は忠平の子実頼(さねより)（小野宮(おののみや)）によってつくられたという。『後二条師通(ごにじょうもろみち)記』に、『貞信公記』が「小野宮抄出」と書かれていることも、その証拠である。本記がなく、抄出本のみであることが遺憾であるが、朱雀(すざく)天皇時代の摂関政治発展と確立の時勢、とくに承平(じょうへい)・天慶(てんぎょう)の乱に関して知ることができる貴重な資料。天理図書館所蔵の九条(くじょう)家本が唯一の古写本で、鎌倉初期の書写。『大日本古記録』に収められ、複製本に「天理図書館善本叢書(そうしょ)」がある。
