The so-called compound microscope, which is formed by the combination of an objective lens and an eyepiece, is said to have been invented by the Dutch opticians Hans Janssen and his son Zacharias Janssen between 1590 and 1609, and this compound microscope is the basic structure of all microscopes today. In contrast, a magnifying glass-style microscope that uses a single convex lens to magnify an object, such as a magnifying glass, is sometimes called a simple microscope, even if it is a combination of one or several lenses. …
