Albazin Fortress

…The first treaty between the Qing and Russia was concluded on September 7, 1689 (August 27 in the Russian calendar, July 24 in the Qing calendar, the 28th year of the Kangxi era). In the mid-17th century, Russian Cossacks and pioneer farmers began to advance into the Heilongjiang River basin, which led to rising tensions with the Qing, who tried to stop this movement. In 1685 and 1686, large-scale battles were fought between the two countries over the Russian outpost of Albazin Fortress. This triggered a rise in the mood for peace in both countries, and they began to move toward border demarcation. …
