Fixed term deposit

Japanese: 定期性預金 - ていきせいよきん

A general term for deposits that, in principle, cannot be repaid during the initial deposit contract period. Usually refers to deposits with a deposit period of three months or more, such as fixed term deposits, installment deposits, and regular installment savings. It corresponds to demand deposits, which are deposits that can be repaid immediately upon the depositor's request. Deposits at notice have a grace period of seven days or more and are intermediate between fixed term deposits and demand deposits, but are generally understood to be demand deposits. Fixed term deposits provide a stable source of funding for financial institutions and offer higher interest rates than demand deposits.

原則として当初の預金契約期間中は払戻しができない預金の総称。通常，預入期間3ヵ月以上の預金，すなわち定期預金，積立預金，定期積金等をいう。預金者の要求により，ただちに払い戻される預金である要求払預金に対応する。通知預金は据置期間が7日間以上で，定期性預金と要求払預金の中間的性格を有するが，一般には要求払預金と解されている。定期性預金は，金融機関にとって安定的な資金調達であり，要求払預金より金利は高い。
