Ujamaa Village - Ujamaa Village

Japanese: ウジャマー村 - うじゃまーむら
Ujamaa Village - Ujamaa Village

...Most of the inhabitants were engaged in self-sufficiency agriculture and lived in scattered villages. The Ujamaa village policy, introduced in 1967, was initially a plan to adopt a collective farm system and to form new, unique communal villages. By the end of the 1970s, 7,373 Ujamaa villages had been built across the country, with 13.5 million people living in them. This policy forced not only farmers but also pastoralists and hunters to settle in villages, and the traditional culture of the tribes is being lost.

From Dodoma

...Located on a plateau at an altitude of 1100-1200m, with scattered hills, the area enjoys a monthly average temperature of 20℃ (July) to 24.5℃ (November), but the average annual rainfall is low at about 550mm, with only 20mm especially in the dry season (May to October). It is the center of the residential area of the Gogo agro-pastoralists, and apart from groundnut plantations, it was an extensive self-sufficient agricultural and pastoral area, but a new socialist village was developed here as a model area for the construction of Ujamaa (meaning "fraternity") villages promoted by President Nyerere. A plan to move Tanzania's capital to this central location was decided in 1973, and construction of a new capital is currently underway.
