Liane (vine) - liane

Liane (vine) - liane
The general term is vine. A plant that cannot grow upright like other plants, but instead grows by leaning against other objects. In general, the stems grow quickly and have long internodes. The leaves are large, and the stems are thin but flexible and do not break easily. The advantage of vines is that they require less material to make stems and can reach the upper part of the forest where there is plenty of sunlight. This habit is particularly well developed in tropical rainforests with their dense growth of tall trees, and the wide variety of vines creates a unique landscape. Many vines grow in Japan, and many of them form communities that cover the edges of forests (honeysuckle, wild grape, kudzu, Akebia).
