Japanese: ツルアリドオシ - つるありどおし

An evergreen perennial plant of the Rubiaceae family that grows in the shade of trees in mountainous areas (illustration). Its name comes from its climbing habit, resembling that of the ant-oak plant. The long, creeping stems grow to over 70 cm and send out roots from the nodes. The leaves are ovate and 1-1.5 cm long. The flowers grow on short stalks at the ends of the stems, and are tetrameric, with two or rarely three flowers. There are two types of flowers, short-style and long-style, with the former having long stamens and the latter having short stamens. The corolla is tubular funnel-shaped, white, and about 1 cm long. The lower ovary has four lobes, each containing one drooping ovule.

山地の木陰に生えるアカネ科の常緑性多年草（イラスト）。名まえは見かけがアリドオシに似てつる性なのでつけられた。茎は長く地上をはい，70cm以上になり，節から根を出す。葉は卵形で，長さ1～1.5cm。花は茎の先に短い柄を出し，2個まれに3個ずつつき，4数性。短花柱花と長花柱花の2型があり，おしべは前者で長く，後者で短い。花冠は筒状漏斗形で白く，長さ約1cm。子房は下位で4室あり，各室に1個の胚珠が下垂する。
