A village in Akan District, eastern Hokkaido. Located to the north of Kushiro City, it includes the wide, low marshland of the Kushiro Marsh and is known as a habitat for the Japanese Crane (a Special Natural Monument). In winter, the birds are fed, bred, and protected. In 1980, part of the Kushiro Marsh was registered as a Ramsar site. 571.80 km2 . 2,627 people (2010).
