Political asylum

Japanese: 政治的保護 - せいじてきほご（英語表記）political asylum

When a country gives hospitality and protection to political asylum seekers from another country and refuses to hand them over to the country of origin. Also called asylum. Political protection is given when a country's government or its diplomatic representatives (embassies, consulates, etc.) accept and protect fugitives from the lawful jurisdiction of another country or from imminent danger of violence. This is widely accepted in terms of international law and general principles of humanity, and is practiced by most countries. However, states are under no legal obligation to provide political protection, and individuals cannot claim it as a right.

ある国が他国からの政治亡命者に対して厚遇と保護を与え，亡命者の当事国への引渡しを拒否すること。アサイラムともいう。政治的保護は，ある国の政府やその外交代表機関(大使館，領事館など)が，他国の管轄権の適法，あるいは暴力の緊迫した危険から逃亡者を受け入れ，保護するときに与えられる。これは国際法や人道の一般原則の観点から広く受け入れられ，ほとんどの国で行われている。しかし，国家は政治的保護を与える法的義務はないし，個人は権利としてそれを主張できない。
