Japanese: 自動車販売業 - じどうしゃはんばいぎょう

This industry sells automobiles to final users such as individuals, and there are companies that mainly deal in new cars and companies that mainly deal in used cars. It is included in the automobile industry in the broad sense. In 1996, 7.08 million new cars (450,000 of which were imported) and 8.09 million used cars were sold. However, half of the used car sales were made by new car dealers, with the rest made by used car dealers (1996). Looking at changes in domestic sales destinations, in 1960, just under 8% were to individuals and just under 30% to hire car and taxi businesses, but by 1970, individuals had exceeded 50% and reached 74% in 1981.

自動車を個人などの最終需要先に販売する産業で，主として新車を扱う企業と中古車を扱う企業とがある。広義の自動車産業に含まれる。1996年では新車が708万台(うち輸入車45万台)，中古車が809万台販売された。しかし中古車の販売台数のうち半分は新車販売業者によるもので，残りが中古車販売業者による(1996)。国内における販売先の変化をみると，1960年には個人向けが8％弱，ハイヤー･タクシー業向けが30％弱に対し，70年には個人向けが50％を超え，81年には74％にも達した。
