Class: Pycnogonidae, Order: Pycnogonidae, Family: Pycnogonidae. Body length including proboscis is 1.5cm, walking legs are 5cm. The body is uniformly light yellow to light brown, sometimes tinged with red. There is an eye caruncle with four eyes on the dorsal surface at the rear end of the head. An ovipositor protrudes from the ventral side just before this, on which males lay spherical egg masses. This species lives on sandy and muddy bottoms at depths of 50-100m in central and southern Japan. N. longitarse , which has even longer walking legs, can be found off the coast of Hokkaido to the Sea of Japan. There are many closely related species in oceans around the world, and these species are generally indicators of warm and cold sea systems.
