…A general term for small rodent mammals of the Sciuridae family, which resemble mice but generally have long limbs and tails, and a tuft of long hair on their tails. They are found all over the world except Australia, New Zealand, Madagascar, southern South America, and Antarctica, and there are about 50 genera and 250 species. They are broadly divided into the diurnal Sciurinae subfamily and the nocturnal Petauristinae subfamily. The smallest is the African pygmy squirrel Myosciurus pumilio (English name: African pygmy squirrel) of Central Africa, which is 6-7.5 cm in body length, 5-6 cm in tail length, and weighs about 16.5 g. The largest is the marmot (English name: Marmot) found in the Northern Hemisphere, which can reach a body length of 60 cm, a tail length of 25 cm, and weigh 7.5 kg. …
