Mount Aono

A lava dome volcano located in the southern part of Tsuwano Town, on the western edge of Shimane Prefecture. It is also called Imoyama. It is 907 meters above sea level. There are parasitic volcanoes such as Koaono in the surrounding area. At the summit is Sanno Shrine, known for its rain-making and insect-repelling rituals. Jikura Numa, a dammed lake in the northeast, is known as a habitat for the Japanese green tree frog. Together with the Tsuwano Castle ruins area, it is designated as Aonoyama Prefectural Natural Park.

島根県西端、津和野(つわの)町南部にある溶岩円頂丘の火山。妹山(いもやま)ともいう。標高907メートル。周辺に小青野などの寄生火山がある。山頂には雨乞(あまご)い、虫封じで知られる山王神社がある。また、北東にある堰止湖(せきとめこ)の地倉沼はモリアオガエルの生息地として知られる。津和野城跡地区とともに青野山県立自然公園に指定されている。
