[Died] April 25, 1635. Modena Italian poet. He served the House of Savoy and others, but spent his later years in the service of the Este family of Modena. His major work, La secchia rapita (1622), is a pseudo-heroic epic poem based on a 14th-century historical event depicting a dispute between Bologna and Modena over a bucket at a well. It is a disjointed satire of the Spanish nobility, the customs of the Church, and his opponents.
