Japanese: ツバメチドリ(燕千鳥) - ツバメチドリ

It refers to a general term for the Glareolidae family of birds in the order Charadriiformes, or one of the species within the family. Birds in this family are divided into pratincoles and coursers. Pratincoles are small to medium in size, with short, slightly downward-curving beaks, wide at the base, wide mouths, and short legs. They have long, pointed wings and a forked tail. They are shaped like an enlarged swallow and are suited to feeding in the air. They are gray-brown above and pale below.

チドリ目ツバメチドリ科Glareolidaeの総称，またはそのうちの1種を指す。この科の鳥はツバメチドリ類(英名pratincole)とスナバシリ類(英名courser)とに分けられる。　ツバメチドリ類は小型～中型で，くちばしは短くて少し下に曲がり，基部の幅は広くて口は大きく開き，脚は長くない。翼は長くて先がとがり，尾は二またに分かれている。ツバメを大きくしたような形で空中採餌に適している。色は上面が灰褐色で下面は淡い。
