Vietnam doc-lap dong-minh-hoi (the League for the Independence of Vietnam). At the 8th Central Committee of the Indochinese Communist Party held in Pak Po, Cao Bang Province near the Chinese border from May 10 to 19, 1941, Ho Chi Minh proposed the formation of the League for the Independence of Vietnam as a united front with the Communist Party at the core and various existing national salvation associations. The League began guerilla warfare toward the end of 1943, and fought against the Japanese army with the support of the United States, capturing a large part of the northern Tonkin region. After the Japanese surrender, the League occupied the capital and declared independence, but the British army reorganized the remaining Japanese troops and drove the Viet Minh army out of Saigon (now Ho Chi Minh City). In May 1946, a new united front, Lien Viet (Lien Viet), was formed to absorb patriots who had not joined the Viet Minh, but the French army bombed Haiphong in November 1946. Thus began the eight-year war of independence against France. During the anti-French war, the Viet Minh and Lien Viet merged in March 1951, and the Viet Minh traditions were carried on under the name of Lien Viet. However, after the Geneva Accords were signed in September 1955, the Vietnam Fatherland Front was formed to unify the country, and the Viet Minh was dissolved in both name and reality.

ベトナム独立同盟会 Vietnam doc-lap dong-minh-hoiの略称。 1941年5月 10～19日中国国境に近いカオバン省のパクポで開かれたインドシナ共産党第8回中央委員会でホー・チ・ミンの提唱により共産党を主軸とし既存の各種救国会を含めた統一戦線として結成された。 43年末頃からゲリラ戦を開始し，アメリカの支援のもとに日本軍と戦い，北部トンキン地方のかなりの部分を手中に収めた。日本降伏に伴い首都を占領，独立を宣言したが，イギリス軍は残存日本軍を再編成してサイゴン (現ホーチミン市) からベトミン軍を撃退した。 46年5月に，ベトミンに未参加の愛国者を吸収するため，新しい統一戦線リエンベト Lien Viet (連越) が結成されたが，フランス軍は 46年 11月ハイフォンを爆撃。こうして以後8年間にわたる対仏独立戦争に突入した。抗仏戦下の 51年3月にベトミンとリエンベトが併合，リエンベトの名でベトミンの伝統が受継がれたが，ジュネーブ協定成立後の 55年9月に，祖国統一のためのベトナム祖国戦線 Vietnam Fatherland Frontが結成され，ベトミンは名実ともに解散した。
