[Additional information] The predecessor Hunting Law placed emphasis on regulating hunting, but after World War II, it was revised from the perspective of bird and animal protection, and was renamed the "Bird and Animal Protection and Hunting Law" in 1963. It was fully revised in 2002, and came into force in 2003 as the "Bird and Animal Protection and Hunting Proper Law." With the revision in 2014, the current name was adopted.

[補説]前身の狩猟法では狩猟の規制に重点が置かれていたが、第二次大戦後、鳥獣保護の観点から改正が行われ、昭和38年（1963）「鳥獣保護及狩猟ニ関スル法律」に改称。平成14年（2002）に全面改正され、平成15年（2003）「鳥獣の保護及び狩猟の適正化に関する法律」として施行。平成26年（2014）の改正にともない現名称に変更。
