Japanese: ツバメ(燕∥玄鳥) - ツバメ（英語表記）swallow

Also known as the swallow, tsubakura, and tsubakurame. A representative species of the passerine family, Hirundinidae, it is very popular because it likes to nest in human homes (illustration). It breeds in the temperate and subarctic zones of Eurasia and North America, as well as in northern Africa. It is generally a migratory bird, and except for those around Africa, it spends the winter in the tropical zones of each continent or in the southern hemisphere. It is a typical summer bird in Japan, arriving in southern Kyushu around early March, in central Honshu from late March to early April, and in Hokkaido around early May.

別名ツバクロ，ツバクラ，ツバクラメなど。スズメ目ツバメ科の代表種で，好んで人家に営巣するため，非常によく親しまれている（イラスト）。ユーラシア，北アメリカ両大陸の温帯から亜寒帯およびアフリカ北部で繁殖する。一般に渡り鳥で，アフリカ周辺以外のものはそれぞれの大陸の熱帯から南半球にかけて越冬する。日本でも代表的な夏鳥で，九州南部では3月上旬ころ，本州中部では3月下旬～4月上旬，北海道では5月上旬ころ渡来する。
