A city in the central part of Niigata Prefecture, in the southern part of the Echigo Plain. At the southern end, the Shinano River and the Shinshinano River flow into the city. It was incorporated as a city in 1954. From the southern end of the city to the neighboring city of Sanjo to the east, there is Tsubame-Sanjo Station on the Joetsu Shinkansen, the Sanjo-Tsubame Interchange on the Hokuriku Expressway, and the Yahiko Line and Echigo Line intersect, making it a transportation hub. The central city, where the Yahiko Line runs, was once a river port on the Shinano River, and in the mid-modern period, due to the influence of the neighboring Kanamono-cho Sanjo, it produced files, kiseru, and copperware. After World War I, the city switched to manufacturing Western-style tableware and developed into the largest production area in the country. In recent years, due to sluggish exports, industrial parks have been developed in the suburbs, including other manufacturing industries. Western-style tableware, kitchen utensils, metal products such as golf clubs, and related steel and general machinery are the main industries, and the production value of Western-style tableware for export still accounts for more than 90% of the national total. In March 2006, the towns of Bunsui and Yoshida in Nishikanbara County were incorporated, and the city hall became the former Yoshida Town Hall. Area: 110.96 km2 . Population: 81,876 (2010). →Related itemsIndustrial clusters Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
