...These settlements are broadly divided into vertical and horizontal migration. Examples of the former include the transhumance settlements in the Swiss Alps that move to higher ground in the summer, and in Japan, the summer dezukuri settlements seen in Shiramine Village at the foot of Mt. Hakusan and on the eastern slope of Mt. Norikura until before World War II. The settlements (residence villages or parent villages) that could be called dezukuri sources.
