Water of Edo
The water from the waterworks in Edo. Edoites were proud of the water they drew from the Kanda and Tamagawa waterworks. *Miscellany, Yanagi Taru Shui (1801), Volume 19, "When people drink Edo water, they want to sell oil."

Edo-no-mizu ...mizu [Water of Edo]

This lotion, used under powder, was first sold by Shikitei Sanba in Honcho 2-chome, Edo in 1811 .
