Mount Tsurugi - Tsubakuro Dake

Japanese:
Mount Tsurugi - Tsubakuro Dake

A mountain in the southeastern part of the Northern Alps in western Nagano Prefecture. It is 2,763 meters above sea level. Together with Mt. Jonen and Mt. Daitenjo, it forms the Jonen Mountains, and is the foreland of Mt. Yarigatake and others. The summit area is bare granite that shines white. It is said that the shape of the mountain resembles a swallow spreading its wings, and that the name Tsubame-dake came from the large number of swallows that live there. The view from the summit is amazing, and it is said that "94 mountains over 2000 shaku (about 700 meters) are visible." You can see Mt. Mitsumatarenge across the Takase Valley to the west, Mt. Yari and Mt. Hotaka to the southwest, Mt. Shirouma and the Ushiro Tateyama mountain range to the north, as well as Mt. Fuji, the Southern Alps, Mt. Asama, and Mt. Yatsugatake, all in one view of the high mountains of central Honshu. There is a well-equipped mountain hut about 1 km south of the summit. It takes about 6 hours to reach this mountain hut from Nakabusa Onsen at the foot of the mountain. It is the starting point of the Omote Ginza traverse route to Mt. Yari via Mt. Daitenjo, and is one of the most popular mountains in the Northern Alps for beginner climbers.
