Born June 18, 1929 in Düsseldorf. German philosopher and sociologist. Graduated from the University of Göttingen and the University of Bonn. He attracted attention with his work Strukturwandel der Öffentlichkeit (1962), which spanned philosophy, intellectual history, history, political science, and sociology. He then developed a very comprehensive social philosophy that integrated the results of modern humanities and social sciences, such as the speech act theory of late Wittgenstein, Austin, and Searle, generative grammar of Chomsky, developmental psychology of Kohlberg, and social systems theory of Parsons and Luhmann, based on the spirit of critical theory of the Frankfurt School including Adorno, and has had a worldwide impact on many aspects of humanities and social sciences. He also frequently speaks on current issues. His main work is Theorie des Kommunikativen Handelns (81).
