1893‐1941 Yugoslav writer. Croatian. Imprisoned at a young age for involvement in an assassination attempt. Served in World War I, and joined the Communist Party after the war. Edited various magazines in Zagreb with Krleja, and promoted revolutionary ideas. In addition to Poems (1919) and a travelogue Russia Today (1937), he produced many works, including plays and novels. All of them called for social justice and development. He was shot to death by the Ustasha (a Croatian fascist group) shortly after the occupation of Yugoslavia by the Axis forces of Germany and Italy.
