King of Yan during the Three Kingdoms period in China. He rose to power during the internal conflicts of the Gongsun clan. He was connected to Wei and appointed as the Governor of Liaodong. At the time, China was divided into three warring kingdoms, and Gongsun Yuan also connected with Sun Quan of Wu in the south. However, he later broke off relations with him and became friendly with Wei. He eventually rebelled against Wei's orders, became independent, and called himself King of Yan. In the second year of the Jingchu era (238), Wei raised an army to attack Gongsun Yuan, and the powerful minister Sima Yi personally led his troops to Liaodong and killed Gongsun Yuan and his son, thus destroying the Gongsun clan's regime.

中国，三国時代の燕王。公孫氏の内紛のなかで支配者の地位を獲得。魏に通じ，遼東太守に任じられた。当時，中国は三国に分れて争っていたが，公孫淵は南方の呉の孫権にも通じた。しかし，のちこれと絶交し，魏に親しんだ。やがて魏の命令にそむき，自立して燕王と称した。景初2 (238) 年，魏は公孫淵征討の軍を起し，権臣司馬懿 (しばい) がみずから兵を率いて遼東に行き，公孫淵父子を斬り，ここに公孫氏の政権は滅亡した。
