Chemistry dealing with boron (B) compounds. Boron is the first element in group IIIB of the periodic table, but it has only a few commonalities with the other group IIIB elements below aluminum, and is more similar to silicon in group IVB. Boron has 3 valence electrons ((2s) ² (2p) ¹ ), but its high ionization energy makes it difficult for it to become a cation, and it is more likely to form covalent bonds. Covalent bonds are formed by sp ² hybrid orbitals, and it is easy to form planar triangular molecules such as BF ₃ , BCl ₃ , and BBr ₃ .

ホウ素Bの化合物を取り扱う化学。ホウ素は周期表第IIIB族の第1に位置する元素であるが，アルミニウム以下の他のIIIB族元素とはわずかな共通点があるだけで，むしろIVB族のケイ素に似ている。ホウ素の原子価電子数は3((2s)²(2p)¹)であるが，イオン化エネルギーが高くて陽イオンとはなりにくく，むしろ共有結合をつくりやすい。共有結合はsp²混成軌道によるもので，たとえばBF₃,BCl₃,BBr₃などのように平面三角形の分子をつくりやすい。
