A perennial plant of the Asteraceae family. It grows in slightly moist forests in mountainous areas from Hokkaido to Kyushu, often in colonies. It has densely hairy basal leaves and upright stems that reach a height of 40-100 cm. The stem leaves are alternate and deeply pinnately lobed. In June and July, it produces a corymb at the top of the stem, with yellow flower heads about 1 cm in diameter. The flowers are enclosed in a tubular involucre, and there are about 10 ray flowers that are linear and about 1 mm wide.
