A poet of the mid-Edo period. His common surname was Nishiyama. He was also known by the pen names Suimuken and Taruiunken. He was born in Tamashima, Bitchu Province (present-day Kurashiki, Okayama Prefecture), and ascended to Enryakuji Temple on Mount Hiei to study Tendai Buddhism. He later became a disciple of Mushanokoji Saneoka and studied waka poetry. He lived in Okazaki in the eastern part of Kyoto, and was known as one of the four great underground poets of the Kansei period (1789-1801). He was on friendly terms with Ozawa Roan and Ban Kokei. His family anthology includes the Taruiun Wakashu. As an underground poet, he composed poems in the style of a court noble. His works include "One Thousand Poems by Suigetsu Hoshi" and the book on waka poetry called "Waka Irinsho." The remains of Wakanoura are gone, but the waves are no longer there.
