Sol (English spelling)

Japanese: ソル(英語表記)Sol
Sol (English spelling)
(1) A woman in Norse mythology who drives a chariot to pull the sun. She is the daughter of a man named Mundilferi and has a brother called Mani. The father boasted about the beauty of his children and gave them the names Sol (sun) and Mani (moon), so the gods punished him for his insolence by abducting them to heaven and making them drivers of a chariot to pull the sun and moon. (2) An ancient Roman sun goddess. Originally a secondary deity on par with the moon goddess Luna, she was identified with the Greek Helios, but later came to be identified with the more important Apollo, and was also confused with the sun gods of Eastern religions such as Mithraism. She was called "the ever-victorious sun" (Sol Invictus) and held the position of supreme deity in the state cult of the Roman Empire until she was replaced by Christianity.
