…Following the Gihou calendar, the Taien calendar, the Goki calendar, and the Senmei calendar, which were calendar systems implemented in the Tang Dynasty, were imported and implemented one after another. This is commonly known as the "Five Chinese Calendars." The Senmei calendar was used from 862 (the 4th year of the Jōgan era), but after that, formal diplomatic relations with China were cut off, and academic progress in Japan had not progressed to the point where it was necessary to reform the calendar by itself, so the Senmei calendar was implemented for 823 years, until the time of the 5th shogun in the Edo period. …
