Kubushiro Ochimi - Kubushiro Ochimi

Christian social activist. Born in Kumamoto Prefecture. Her father, Okubo Shinjiro (1855-1914), was a pastor, and her sister, Otowa, was a Christian and the elder sister of Tokutomi Soho. After graduating from Joshi Gakuin, she went to America and studied at Pacific Theological Seminary. In 1910 (Meiji 43), she married pastor Kubushiro Naokatsu (1879-1920) in Oakland. During her stay in America, she was involved in investigating brothels run by Japanese women. She accompanied her great-aunt, Yajima Kajiko, head of the Kyofukai, to the 7th Kyofukai World Conference in Boston. After returning to Japan, she was a central figure in the Kyofukai, and came up with and carried out the "Five-Sen Bag Campaign" to raise funds for the abolition of prostitution campaign, and also participated in the movement to obtain women's suffrage. After World War II, she focused on the issue of mixed-race children and the passage of the Anti-Prostitution Law, and was also active in the peace movement.

キリスト教社会運動家。熊本県生まれ。父大久保真次郎（1855―1914）は牧師、母音羽(おとわ)は徳富蘇峰(とくとみそほう)の姉でクリスチャン。女子学院卒業後渡米、太平洋神学校に学ぶ。1910年（明治43）オークランドで牧師久布白直勝(なおかつ)（1879―1920）と結婚。滞米中、日本人女性の売春宿調査に従事する。大叔母で矯風会(きょうふうかい)会頭の矢島楫子(やじまかじこ)に同行し、ボストンの第7回矯風会世界大会に出席。帰国後、矯風会の中心にあって、廃娼(はいしょう)運動資金獲得のための募金活動「五銭袋運動」を発案実行し、さらに婦人参政権獲得運動にも参加した。第二次世界大戦後は混血児問題や売春防止法成立に力を注ぐほか、平和運動にも活躍した。
