Japanese: 赤坂[町] - あかさか

A former town in Akaiwa County, southeastern Okayama Prefecture. It is located in the Sunagawa River basin in the Kibi Plateau, with its central settlement being Machikanda. Formerly a producer of Akasaka White Cotton, the town is known for its specialty products such as Omachi rice for sake brewing, Muscat grapes, and strawberries, and also manufactures machinery and electrical parts. In March 2005, it merged with Sanyo Town, Kumayama Town, and Yoshii Town in Akaiwa County to become a city, Akaiwa City. Area: ^{42.99 km2} . Population: 5,199 (2003).

岡山県南東部，赤磐(あかいわ)郡の旧町。吉備(きび)高原中の砂川流域にあり，中心集落は町苅田(まちかんだ)。かつては赤坂白木綿の産地で，酒米の雄町米，マスカット，イチゴなどを特産し，機械・電気部品などの工業も行う。2005年３月赤磐郡山陽町，熊山町，吉井町と合併し市制，赤磐市となる。42.99km²。5199人（2003）。
