...Leader of the Mexican War of Independence. He entered the seminary in Valladolid, where M. Hidalgo was the director, and became a priest. During the War of Independence, he served as Hidalgo's right-hand man, and after Hidalgo's death, he led the rebel army. He fought against A. de Iturbide, and in 1814 he created the Apatzingán Constitution, which was based on liberal ideas. However, he was arrested and shot in 1815. The War of Independence stagnated from this period, and was finally achieved in 1821. In his honor, his birthplace, Valladolid, was renamed Morelia. ...
