This is one of the schools of tea ceremony founded by Oda Uraku. Uraku, who was a disciple of Sen no Rikyu and was initiated into the art of tea, passed it on to his second son, Yorinaga (1582-1620). In 1614 (Keicho 19), Yorinaga was advised by Uraku to side with the Tokugawa during the Winter Siege of Osaka, but he did not listen and retired to Kawachi, where he took the name Unshoji Dohachi. He later moved to Kyoto, where he built a temple called Saami in Maruyama, Higashiyama, and settled there. His son Sangoro (?-1651) was a lover of the famous tea utensils passed down from his father and left behind a will entitled "Catalogue of Distribution of Oda Sangoro's Belongings." Later, the Uraku tea ceremony was passed down from Sangoro to Nobunaga's grandson, Oda Sadaoki (1617-1704), and so it came to be known as the Sadaoki school. Sadaoki passed it on to the Tokugawa Shogunate, was granted a stipend of 1,000 koku, and trained disciples such as Matsumoto Kenkyu, but the Sadaoki school subsequently fell into decline. The Uraku school currently survives in the Kanto region, led by head Oda Nagashige.
