Zhang Yan - Choen

A Chinese literati and poet from the late Song and early Yuan periods. His pen name was Shuxia, and his pen name was Yutian or Le Xiaowong. He was from Hangzhou (Zhejiang Province). He was from a distinguished family, the descendants of Zhang Jun, the nobleman of the early Southern Song, but after the fall of the Southern Song he fell into poverty and became a free spirit. He was knowledgeable about music, and famous as a writer and theorist of the literary art of ci. He is listed at the end of the list of Southern Song literati along with Zhou Mi and Wang Yisun. He wrote the eight-volume anthology "Shanchuu Baiyun Ci" (White Clouds in the Mountains) and two volumes of "Ci Sources," the first volume of which contains music theory, and the second volume of which contains the theory of ci as a literary art and criticism of writers and works. It is said to be the most precise book on ci theory from the Song period.

中国、宋(そう)末元(げん)初の文人、詞人。字(あざな)は叔夏(しゅくか)、号は玉田または楽笑翁。杭州(こうしゅう)（浙江(せっこう)省）の人。南宋初期の功臣、循王(じゅんおう)張俊の子孫という名門の出だが、南宋滅亡後は没落して飄泊(ひょうはく)した。音楽に詳しく、歌辞文芸「詞」の作家、理論家として有名。周密(しゅうみつ)、王沂孫(おうきそん)と並んで南宋文人詞の末尾を飾る。詞集『山中白雲詞』八巻のほか『詞源』二巻の著があり、上巻は音楽理論、下巻は文芸としての詞の理論と作家・作品の批評を収め、宋代の詞論の書としてもっとも精密といわれる。
