Year of death: June 26, 1886 (Meiji 19) Year of birth: 1820 A poet from the end of the Edo period to the Meiji period. His first name was Ashiho, he was commonly known as Shichiro, and his pen name was Sekizono. He was the son of Iida Hideo, a shrine official at Kachiya Shrine in Keta County, Inaba Province (Tottori Prefecture). As Hideo was a pupil of Motoori Ohira, Toshihira also studied under Ohira, and also under Kano Shohei. His love of learning was recognised by Ikeda Yoshinori, the lord of Tottori Domain, and he was promoted to professor at the National Learning Bureau. After the Meiji Restoration, he served as a historian in the new government, successively holding positions such as Shinto Grand Historian, Shinto Grand Recorder, and Shikibu Grand Chamberlain, before retiring as an official official at the Shikibu-ryo Bureau. He was ranked Jurokui (Junior Sixth Rank) at the time of his death. He has many anecdotes about drinking and poverty, and died without starting a family. He wrote many works related to Shinto.
