Imitation

Japanese: もどき

It means to make something in imitation, something made in imitation, a fake, etc. It is also used when criticizing or criticizing, such as "modoki kao" (a face that seems to be criticizing). It is written as ぎ, 艾, 牴牾, etc. In performing arts, it refers to a role or piece that has a clownish character that imitates or teases the main character. For example, the Ninjo and Saino of Mikagura, and the Okina and Sanbaso of Noh can be seen as having a relationship with a god, and the Ninomai of Bugaku is danced in the form of a response dance to Ama, imitating Ama, but this is an imitation of Ama.

似せて作ること，また似せて作ったもの，まがいものなどの意。また非難や批評するときにも〈もどき顔〉(非難しているらしい顔つき)などとして使われる。擬，抵牾，牴牾などと書く。芸能では主役のまねをしたり，からかったりする道化の性格をもつ役や曲をいう。たとえば御神楽（みかぐら）の人長（にんぢよう）と才男（さいのお），能の《翁》と《三番叟》を，神ともどきの関係としてみることができるし，舞楽の《二ノ舞》は，《安摩（あま）》の答舞の形をとって《安摩》をまねて舞われるが，これは《安摩》に対するもどきである。
