Lithuanian composer and painter. His father was a church organist, and he spent his childhood in Druskininkai, a famous resort town in southern Lithuania, surrounded by the world of folk songs and folk tales. He attended the Oginskis Music School from the age of 13, entered the Warsaw Conservatory in 1893, and graduated from the Leipzig Conservatory in 1902. He studied painting during that time, and died young at the age of 35. However, in his short creative career, he left behind a large number of works in both composition and painting that seem to be reproductions of "Beautiful Lithuania."

リトアニアの作曲家，画家。教会オルガン奏者を父にもち，リトアニア南部の保養地として名高いドルスキニンカイで，民謡，民話の世界に親しみつつ幼少時代を過ごした。13歳からオギンスキス音楽学校に通い，1893年ワルシャワ音楽院に入学，1902年ライプチヒ音楽院を卒業，その間絵画を学び，35歳の若さで早世した。しかし短い制作期間に作曲，絵画の両面で，〈美しきリトアニア〉の再現かと思われるばかりの作品を数多く残した。
