A city in the central part of Indonesia, in the southern part of Borneo. It is also called Banjarmasin. It is the capital of South Kalimantan Province. It is located about 38 km from the mouth of the Balito River, and is a trading center for rice, rubber, coal, gold, etc. It has had a long history of trade with eastern Java, and many of its residents are Banjar people, a mix of Malay and Javanese.
