Japanese: 観天望気 - かんてんぼうき

A method of forecasting the weather in a small area from the state of the sky and the behavior of living things. Weather changes in the westerly winds move eastward, and there is a pattern to the changes in clouds that accompany the passage of high and low pressure systems, so these are captured empirically and used to predict the weather. For example, "rain at sunrise, clear skies at sunset" captures the approach of high and low pressure systems. Also, "when bees fly low it means thunderstorms, and when swallows fly low it means rain" captures the high humidity level, and is useful for local forecasts several hours in advance.
