Ekka - Ekka

...The third layer contains mammal-like reptile fossils, and the fourth layer is desert-like in places and indicates a vast basalt eruption. Four layers of rocks, the Dwaika (tulliver layer), the Ekka (coal-bearing layer), the Beaufort (mammal-like reptile layer), and the Stormberg (basalt layer), were discovered in India, Australia, and South Africa, respectively. This raised the question of how to interpret the distribution of four similar layers of rocks on continents separated by such a vast ocean. It was also discovered that the ages and structures of Precambrian rocks on the eastern coast of South America and the corresponding western coast of South Africa are very similar, that Paleozoic freshwater lake deposits containing common fossils are distributed in both areas, and that paleolatitude reconstructions based on paleomagnetism are very similar.
