Çukurova (English spelling)

Cilicia is a plain formed by the delta of the Seyhan and Ceyhan rivers, spanning the provinces of Adana and Icer in southern Turkey. Its ancient name was Cilicia. Its area is about 7,500 km2. It is bounded by the Taurus Mountains to the west and north, the Mediterranean Sea to the south, and the Southeast Taurus Mountains to the east. It has a warm climate and is located on a trade route connecting the interior of Anatolia with the Mesopotamia region, so it has been a target of struggle between various ethnic groups since ancient times. It became part of the Ottoman Empire in 1515, but after World War I, part of Çukurova was ceded to France under the Treaty of Sevres.
