A nitramine compound first synthesized in 1877. Its abbreviation is NGd. Since World War II, it has been used as a component of triple-base propellants. Adding nitroguanidine lowers the combustion temperature, and the gas generated with the same energy is less corrosive to the gun barrel. It is a colorless polycrystalline powder that usually has a low specific gravity and a tangled structure. Its crystal density is 1.77, and its melting point is 246-246.5°C. It is non-hygroscopic, but quite soluble in hot water. Its DTA decomposition onset temperature is about 220°C, and it produces a large amount of decomposition gas, making it an advantageous component of propellants.
