Takeo [city] - Takeo
A city in the western part of Saga Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1954. It occupies the Takeo Basin and the surrounding hills. The city center is blessed with boat traffic on the Rokkaku River, and developed as a post station on the Nagasaki Road and as a hot spring resort of Takeo Onsen (simple spring, 46-51°C). Rice is grown on the plains, and mandarin oranges and tea are cultivated in the foothills. Livestock is also raised. Industry is sluggish with many small businesses, but in recent years there has been an increase in companies being attracted to industrial parks in the north. There is a Hizen pottery kiln site (historic site). In March 2006, Kitakata Town and Yamauchi Town in Kishima County were incorporated. 195.40 km2 . 50,699 people (2010).
